Current Cultural Arts Theme
Each year FAME programs focus on the arts culture of a selected part of the world. All FAME programs will use this culture focus of study during the year. This allows students and teachers to explore different cultures and integrate arts programming into other academic areas such as social studies.
The 2013– 2014 cultural focus is the various nations of Northwest Europe.
Come join us on our adventure in Northwest Europe as we journey in the world of imagination creating music and art. Become a member of FAME.
(2013-2014 logo design created by Jan Hoffman, Art Specialist. Click on the above logo to download your own copy. The logo for this year's festival is based on illumination created between 630 and 850 a.d. in the British Isles and Ireland. Often referred to as Celtic, insular manuscript creation was a team effort for monks at Durrow, Durham, Lindesfarne, Kells, and other lesser known monasteries. Each monk had a specific role in copying the Gospels and the Book of Psalms, from preparing the vellum, writing, illuminating, and binding. This period introduced colors of yellow, blue, green, orange, and pink to the standard red and black of the uncial manuscripts before them. Decorated text, versals, and carpet pages grew increasingly more complex with the twists and turns of knotwork, beast work, spirals and Greek keys. The birds traditionally stand for eagles, their feathers becoming all knotted up in an elegant frenzy. And together with our young artists, we soar like eagles over a sea of ideas that our own and ours to share. )
Each year, FAME focuses on the arts culture of a select region of the world. All FAME programs will use this culture focus of study during the year. This focus allows students and teachers to explore different cultures and integrate arts programming into other academic areas such as social studies.
