Mark the date….FAME Camp 2008 is July 27th – August 1, 2008 because FAME Camp 2007 was a knock out Camp and this year has all the markings of another great year. The only overnight week long arts camp in Northern Indiana. This year we are studying the art culture of Indiana by looking at the composers, visual artists, dancers and musicians that came from this state. Gene Stratton-Porter, James Whitcomb Riley, The Miami Tribe, Cole Porter, Indy Jazz, Jim Davis (Garfield), The Jackson Five and Michael Jackson, Hoagy Carmichael, John Cougar Mellencamp, and the list goes on. What a rich cultural state!
Last year we filled to capacity with an overflow list in the wings. The 2007 Campers (all 123 kids ages 8 to 14) represented 61 schools:
|
Abbett Elementary |
Jefferson Middle School |
Ossian Elementary |
Our 2007 Camp post-evaluations from the campers confirmed our goals of an intense, fun and creative arts experience in the 2007 African-American culture were met. 92% of the campers gave a big thumbs up to the camp food, 98% of the campers felt safe in the cabins, and 98% of the campers felt the counselors and art specialists were fun and cared about them. Over 92% of the camp felt they had an intense, creative arts week.
We were surprised and honored by a letter received from a 13 year old FAME camper this year, which really sums up the goals of FAME Camp:
FAME Camp has been an extraordinary experience for me. I was free to be creative. No one was holding me back from what I love to do. Beth inspired me when she said that this was our week. It was our time to shine bright as the stars. I was set free. Free to create, sing, play, act and show everyone the real me. I didn’t have to put on a mask here. I got to be ME. And that’s what FAME Camp gives you – Freedom. Something you can’t find at home or other camps. The teachers really taught me well and showed genuine interest in their students. I can’t stand to go home where I know I won’t have this freedom to express myself. I’m glad I can go back to my school and use all the stuff I’ve learned in my music classes. Thanks to you all for teaching me and making my week the best it could possibly be!”
We have an 18 minute video on this website for you to get a sense of how great this camp could be for your talented child. Click here to check it out. All campers, ages 8 to 14, must have a reference from an arts teacher. We are looking for kids with a seed of talent and a great desire to play with that talent. FAME Arts Camp forms a one week artist colony for our next generation of visual artists, musicians, dancers and actors. We believe kids should play; so, we are located at a premier outdoors camp accredited by the American Camping Association. During the morning the campers take fine art classes, in the afternoon they swim, skateboard, canoe, horseback ride, mud hike, play basketball, tetherball, read, etc and the evening they perform for each other in a talent sharing show.
Classes at the 2008 FAME Summer Arts Camp will include:
Dance: Dance of Indiana Choreographers from tap to Michael Jackson and basic dance by hip-hop dance specialist Kristin Pagan, Jorgenson YMCA Dance Studio.

Even the counselors got into the act with their dance, outstanding voices and instrumental skills. The counselors also will passionately reenact at night “the Underground Railroad” through
