FAMEous Student Composers Create and Collaborate in the
NE FAME/Fort Wayne Philharmonic 2007-08 Composition Project

Once again this year, several Northeast Indiana FAMEous Fourth Grade student composers are in for a fabulous, once in a lifetime experience in music composition, as they collaborate and create in the 2007-2008 FAME/Fort Wayne Philharmonic Composition Project!
The FAMEous student composers will meet for project sessions on November 5-7, 2007, from 4:30-6:00PM, at Haley Elementary School, with FAME Composer-in-Residence, David Crowe, renowned composer and friend of FAME, where they will collaborate to create an original composition to be performed by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic with the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir, at the FAME Festival on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at 1:15PM, at the Grand Wayne Center
During the project, the student composers will compose, perform, and notate their very own signature compositions inspired by their engagement with poetry from the famous Indiana poet, James Whitcomb Riley. Mr. Crowe will then lead “composium” sessions where he and the student composers will review and reflect on the signature compositions and creatively communicate about how their musical ideas will be orchestrated into the final project composition in the format of a choral and instrumental piece. Mr. Crowe will then score the finished composition for choir and symphonic orchestra.
The student composers will access a project portfolio to complete various reflection assignments, which will help stimulate creative input and facilitate feedback for assessment during the music composition process.
The FAMEous student composers, along with their parents and music teachers will be special guests at the composition’s official rehearsal on Tuesday March 4, 2008 at 7:00PM, at the Philharmonic Center, as well as a mini-rehearsal at 12:00PM, along with the premiere performance by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and the Fort Wayne Children’s Choir, at the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Celebration of Youth concert at the FAME Festival on Sunday, March 9, 2008, at 1:15PM, at the Grand Wayne Center.
